My Menopause Journey: From Personal Struggle to Empowering Others

At 37, I made the decision to discontinue birth control, hopeful about the possibility of starting a family. Shortly thereafter, I began experiencing intense hot flashes. A visit to my OBGYN led to a brief voicemail informing me that I was entering menopause. The abruptness and lack of guidance left me devastated and confused. Facing the reality of unfulfilled dreams of motherhood, coupled with relocating to a new city for work, I struggled with overwhelming uncertainty.

In my new city, a consultation with a different OBGYN provided limited options: resume birth control or manage the symptoms naturally. Opting for natural remedies, I experimented with various supplements. While some offered temporary relief, I endured sleepless nights and embarrassing episodes of sweating during professional meetings. Overwhelmed, I reverted to birth control for symptom management.

A decade later, an unexpected health crisis emerged. A ruptured liver tumor led to emergency surgery, resulting in the removal of half my liver. Post-surgery, I was strictly advised against any hormonal treatments to prevent future complications. This restriction reignited the battle with relentless hot flashes. Despite diligently trying various natural supplements for extended periods, consistent relief remained elusive. The medical support I sought was often dismissive or unhelpful, leaving me to navigate this challenging phase largely on my own.

Compounding these challenges, I faced significant weight fluctuations. After initiating monthly workout challenges at work, I unexpectedly gained 20 pounds in three months, reaching my heaviest weight. Determined, I enrolled in a weight loss program and successfully shed 50 pounds over six months (see photos). However, maintaining this loss proved difficult, and I gradually regained 20 pounds. Questions swirled: Was menopause influencing these changes? Had I been suppressing underlying symptoms? Why had I overlooked these issues for so long?

Now 55, after a career setback with the elimination of my job and facing challenges in securing new employment, I found myself at a crossroads. A conversation with a new friend about my health journey sparked a revelation. She observed my compassion and depth of experience, suggesting I consider becoming a health coach. Intrigued, I explored health coaching programs and connected with professionals in the field. Recognizing the increasing discourse around menopause, I felt a profound calling to support other women navigating this transition, Sueport was born!
